Near Phang Nga Bay
James Bond Island 11 km
A pair of limestone islands in Phang Nga Bay that became famous after appearing in a James Bond film. Just offshore stands Ko Tapu, a 20 metre spike of rock that narrows towards its base and seems to balance on the water.
Ko Panyi 12 km
A fishing village built on stilts over the water of Phang Nga Bay, tucked against the foot of a limestone island. About 1,600 people live here, descended from two seafaring Muslim families from Indonesia, and the mosque rises above the rooftops.
Ko Yao Yai 31 km
The larger of the two long islands in the middle of Phang Nga Bay, its name meaning big long island. Most of its people are Muslim fishing and farming families, and it is quieter and less developed than its smaller twin, Ko Yao Noi, to the north.
Ao Nang 35 km
A resort town on the Krabi coast, one of the ten subdistricts of Mueang Krabi, its beach framed by tall limestone cliffs. Long-tail boats leave straight from the sand for Railay and the islands offshore.
Khao Phanom Bencha National Park 37 km
A national park in the hills north of Krabi town, named after the mountain of Khao Phanom Bencha at its heart. It protects a stretch of virgin rainforest and rare wildlife, a world away from the beaches along the coast below.
Railay Beach 40 km
A small peninsula between Krabi town and Ao Nang, cut off from the mainland by limestone cliffs, so the only way in is by boat. Climbers come from all over the world for the cliffs, and the beaches of Phra Nang, West and East Railay and Ton Sai lie beneath them.
Ko Poda 42 km
A small limestone island about 8 kilometres off Ao Nang, ringed with white sand and shallow, clear water. It is the largest of the Poda group, with Ko Kai, Ko Mo and Ko Thap, and all of them fall within a national park.
Old Phuket Town 50 km
The old heart of Phuket city, along Thalang, Phang Nga, Krabi, Dibuk and Yaowarat roads. The streets are lined with pastel Sino-Portuguese shophouses, many now cafes, small hotels and museums.
