Near James Bond Island
Ko Panyi 6.7 km
A fishing village built on stilts over the water of Phang Nga Bay, tucked against the foot of a limestone island. About 1,600 people live here, descended from two seafaring Muslim families from Indonesia, and the mosque rises above the rooftops.
Phang Nga Bay 11 km
A 400 square kilometre bay between Phuket and the mainland, filled with sheer limestone islands rising straight out of green water. Much of it has been protected since 1981 as Ao Phang Nga National Park, and it is best seen from a long-tail boat or a sea kayak.
Ko Yao Yai 31 km
The larger of the two long islands in the middle of Phang Nga Bay, its name meaning big long island. Most of its people are Muslim fishing and farming families, and it is quieter and less developed than its smaller twin, Ko Yao Noi, to the north.
Ao Nang 43 km
A resort town on the Krabi coast, one of the ten subdistricts of Mueang Krabi, its beach framed by tall limestone cliffs. Long-tail boats leave straight from the sand for Railay and the islands offshore.
Phuket FantaSea 43 km
A nighttime cultural theme park at Kamala on Phuket, opened in December 1998 on about 24 hectares. Evenings centre on a large Thai theatrical show, with a themed buffet restaurant and a shopping street around it.
Kamala Beach 43 km
A beach and small town on Phuket's west coast, north of Patong, in a curving bay backed by green hills. It is calmer than its busier neighbours, and one of the island's major attractions.
Old Phuket Town 45 km
The old heart of Phuket city, along Thalang, Phang Nga, Krabi, Dibuk and Yaowarat roads. The streets are lined with pastel Sino-Portuguese shophouses, many now cafes, small hotels and museums.
Railay Beach 48 km
A small peninsula between Krabi town and Ao Nang, cut off from the mainland by limestone cliffs, so the only way in is by boat. Climbers come from all over the world for the cliffs, and the beaches of Phra Nang, West and East Railay and Ton Sai lie beneath them.
