-
Fountains of Bellagio
A musical fountain show on a 3.4-hectare man-made lake in front of the Bellagio on the Strip. More than 1,200 nozzles and 4,792 lights throw water as high as 140 metres in time to music.
-
Fremont Street Experience
A pedestrian mall over five blocks of Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas, the old Glitter Gulch of neon signs and casinos. A huge LED canopy roofs the street and comes alive with light shows after dark.
-
High Roller
A 167-metre Ferris wheel on the Strip that opened in 2014 as the tallest in the world, now second only to Ain Dubai. A full turn in one of its glass cabins takes about half an hour.
-
Hoover Dam
A concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the line between Nevada and Arizona, built between 1931 and 1936. It holds back Lake Mead, and a road runs along its crest from one state to the other.
-
Las Vegas Strip
A stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard about 6.8 kilometres long, lined with resort hotels and casinos. It lies just south of the city limits, yet at night its replica skylines, fountains and lights are the picture most people have of Las Vegas.
-
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area
A protected area of red and cream sandstone cliffs about 24 kilometres west of Las Vegas, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. A scenic loop road runs past its formations, and it draws more than three million hikers, climbers and drivers a year.
-
Sphere
A spherical arena just east of the Strip, built for immersive shows with a 16K wraparound LED screen inside. Its outer shell is covered in programmable lights too, so the whole globe can become an eyeball, a planet or a giant face.
-
The Strat
A hotel and casino at the north end of the Strip under a 350-metre observation tower, the tallest in the United States. At the top are a revolving restaurant, observation decks and thrill rides that swing riders out over the edge.
-
Valley of Fire State Park
Nevada's oldest state park, about 19,000 hectares of red Aztec Sandstone formed from shifting dunes 150 million years ago. The rock seems to burn when the sun strikes it, which gives the valley its name, and ancient petroglyphs mark some of its walls.
